Description
The old Bangor City Hall illuminated. City hall resided at this corner of Hammond and Columbia Streets from 1893/4 until the late 1960s, being demolished in 1969. Also know as the Samuel F. Hersey Memorial Building.
Shown here are the intersection of Hammond and Franklin Street. American Express Co. can be seen near the left hand lower third of the photograph. This company, a package delivery service, was not listed at this location until the 1901 Bangor City Directory. American Express Co. became known as American Railway Express Co. in 1918.
