Bernard Joseph Bertels, Jr. Captain, U.S. Army Infantry 43rd Division.
1 August 1916 - 22 January 1945.
After fighting at Guadalcanal the Northern Solomons, and New Guinea he was killed on Luzon while commanding his infantry company in action. Graduated, Bangor High School, 1934; Hebron Academy, 1935. State of Maine Scholarship, Bowdoin College, 1935. Bachelor of Arts, Bowdoin, 1939. In civil life an insurance investigator. Purple Heart.
