Description
A view of the 60-130 block of Main Street, Bangor, Maine, about 1909. Back of photo indicates circa 1909. This seems correct when looking at Bangor city directories of that era.
Businesses viewed by zooming in or other magnification include:
G.W. Stevens, dry goods and manufacturer of ladies' underwear, at 61 Main. George W. Stevens is listed in the 1909 as having died August 29, 1907. The storefront almost looks abandoned when zooming in.
C.S. Woolworth, five & dime store, 65 Main.
Bangor Jewelry and Optical Company, 71 Main. Robert C. Williston manager. Store is advertising a close out sale on all jewelry
Frawley's Pharmacy 73 Main, on the corner of Main and Cross Street. John P. Frawley pharmaceutist (who it is listed in the 1909 directory).
Two signs on left side of street advertise Freese. These are from 74-86 Main. A. Langdon Freese, millinery and dry goods.
The steeple for Union Street Brick Church at 126 Union Street can be seen.
Horse carriages account for most of the vehicles on the street, but there is one open top car in front of Bangor Opera House (now Penobscot Theater) at 131 Main Street.
