Description
An 18 year old Wainwright Cushing mustered into the 6th Maine Infantry on July 15, 1861. He was wounded at Fredericksburg. Promoted Corporal September 1, 1863. He was discharged and reenlisted in the 1st Maine Veteran Volunteers. He was wounded at Spotsylvania, and served in Sheridan's campaign in the Shenandoah Valley, and at Petersburg. He returned to Sebec after the war, and worked in a woolen mill as a dyer. In 1880 he started his own company "Cushing's Perfection Dyes."
